Guided Foraging Walk at New Hall Country Valley Park

Guided Foraging Walks

at New Hall Valley Country Park

Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands

What’s this New Hall walk like?

Join a relaxed, beginner-friendly group walk through the gentle landscape of New Hall Valley Country Park, a stretch of former farmland just north of Birmingham in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield.

This two-hour walk follows well-worn footpaths through meadows, along the Plants Brook stream, and beneath scattered woodland: an area rich in wildlife and wild plants.

We explore a small section of the park at a steady, unhurried pace, pausing regularly to chat about what’s growing so you’ll quickly learn to spot edible plants along hedges, paths, and woodland edges.

The walk begins with introductions and a short briefing on the basics. Along the way, we stop often to examine wild plants (leaves, flowers, fruits, and hedgerow finds) depending on the season.

These guided walks are designed to help you slow down, notice what’s already here, identify edible plants with confidence, and get practical tips on using wild ingredients at home.

What You’ll Learn:

These walks are about noticing and understanding plants, not filling baskets or covering miles.

  • How to identify 10–15 wild edible plants (and avoid their dodgy lookalikes)
  • What’s in season and how to find it again
  • Culinary and herbal uses for the plants we discover
  • How to forage safely, legally and respectfully
  • Creative ways to cook, preserve or simply enjoy wild ingredients at home

After the walk, you’ll receive a detailed follow-up email with notes, links, and book recommendations, so learning continues beyond the day.
