Private Foraging Walks (UK Midlands)
One-to-One Sessions
Sometimes a group walk isn’t what you’re looking for.
You might want more time.
More quiet.
Or simply the space to learn at your own pace, without feeling watched or rushed.
Private foraging walks offer the same gentle approach as my group walks, just held differently.
A private walk gives you room to slow down.
There’s time to pause, ask questions, repeat things, and let confidence build naturally. We move at a pace that suits you, not a group. For many people, this is the easiest way to begin.
Who are private walks for?
Private walks work especially well if you are:
• New to foraging and looking for reassurance
• Prefer learning quietly, without pressure
• Want to share the experience with a partner, friend, or family member
• Feel unsure in group settings
• Want focused guidance rather than lots of information
There’s no right or wrong reason to choose this format.
It’s simply about what feels most supportive.
"I booked a foraging walk as a gift to my wife for her birthday. Alvaro was excellent throughout (from the booking process to the day itself). The experience was just wonderful. We look forward to booking another walk in the near future, and would highly recommend this superb morning out :)"

What the walk is like
A private walk is not a lecture or a survival course.
We walk gently, stop often, and work with what the land is offering on the day. You’ll learn how to recognise a small number of edible plants with confidence, using clear visual and sensory markers rather than memorisation.
The aim isn’t quantity. It’s recognition, safety, and trust in what you’re seeing.
What you’ll learn
Each walk is shaped around you, but typically we’ll explore:
• How to safely recognise common edible plants
• Simple sensory cues to build trust in identification
• Where and when plants grow
• Culinary and herbal uses for what we find
• Simple ways to use wild food at home
After the walk, you’ll receive a detailed follow-up email with notes, so learning continues beyond the day.
Practical Details:
Location
Private walks take place in New Hall Valley Country Park, just north of Birmingham in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield.
This is a landscape I know well and regularly use for teaching: former farmland with open meadows, hedgerows, woodland edges, and the steady presence of Plants Brook.
Using a familiar site keeps the walk calm, focused, and safe.
Group size
Private walks are limited to a maximum of five people.
This keeps the experience conversational and unhurried. Beyond that, attention gets diluted and learning suffers. I’d rather keep it small and do it properly.
Duration
Most private walks last around two hours.
That’s long enough to settle into the landscape without information overload. Longer sessions are possible by arrangement if you’re looking for something more in-depth.
Price
£120 for up to 2 people
£20 per additional person
Maximum group size: 5
A note on safety and responsibility
Foraging is about attention and respect.
We’ll only discuss plants that can be confidently identified, and I’ll always be clear about what not to pick. Responsible harvesting and care for the land are central to every walk.
This is not survival training or certification: it’s practical, everyday learning rooted in awareness.
Booking a private walk
Private walks are arranged by enquiry rather than instant booking.
This helps keep expectations clear and ensures the experience is genuinely supportive and appropriate for you. Once I understand what you’re looking for, I’ll confirm availability and next steps.
